Barcelona kickstarted their Champions League campaign with a 4-0 win at home against Dutch Champions PSV Eindhoven on Tuesday. It was Lionel Messi’s sensational hat-trick that kept Barcelona ahead throughout the entire match, hereby inaugurating their journey at Champions League with a 4-0 win.
Barcelona’s favorite and all-time scorer Messi started dismantling PSV in the 32nd minute with a smooth, struck free kick, curving the ball right into the top near corner, which ultimately became his second free kick goal in three home games this season.
Although PSV managed to lock many of the Barca’s attacks asnd also plotted several dangerous breaks, which led to Mexico International Hirving Lozano firing narrow over the bar after the interval.
Post-interval saw the Spanish champions performing with class and delivering some of the best shots and attacks which caused PSV to immobilise. Barca doubled their lead in the 75th minute through a spontaneous curling strike from French forward Ousmane Dembele. Two minutes later Messi scored the second goal and Barca’s scoreboard flipped to a total of 3 goals. Luis Suarez managed to chip pass the ball to Messi in the 87th minute and Barcelona then ruthlessly smashed the home with 4-0.
Mood got a bit soured when France defender Umtiti was dismissed in the 79th minute for a second yellow card, ruling him out of Barca’s next Champions League game against Tottenham Hotspur.
Barcelona is currently leading the Group B chart of Champions League on goal difference after Inter Milan beat Tottenham at 2-1.
