Formula One World Champion Lewis Hamilton faces social media backlash for his recent comments on India and the Grand Prix races that were hosted in India between the time periods of 2011-2013.

The British racer who won the recent Mexican Grand Prix and bagged a fifth world championship said in a recent interview that he had been in a dilemma during his visit to India for the Indian Grand Prix between 2011 and 2013 where he found it strange to race on a track in the middle of nowhere ‘because India was such a poor place’.

He made this comment in the light of the announcement of the Vietnamese Grand Prix earlier this month.

“I have been to Vietnam before and it is a beautiful place. I have been to India before to a race which was strange because India was such a poor place, yet we had this massive, beautiful Grand Prix track made in the middle of nowhere. I felt very conflicted when I went to that Grand Prix”, Lewis Hamilton commented to BBC Sport.

His words didn’t go down well with the sports fans all over India and have drawn significant anger from the netizens too. He might also be losing a fair amount of his fan base in the country.
