The Indian Playerzpot League 2023 has started off with a bang, with the round of week 1 fixtures done with there were a few surprise defeats while some of the team carried on the good results as they did last season. However, this was a short weekend round fixture where each of them traded early blows in the initial stages of the tournament, but wait till you get blasted with the real drama and action as the league stages further with the new round of fixtures.

Talking about the next round of fixtures, the Delhi team will be squaring off against the defending champions Gujarat. Delhi looked like a disjointed team and flustered in their efforts in the loss vs Lucknow. Meanwhile, Gujarat started off brightly in a tight win against the Chennai side who lost by fine margins and with some individual brilliance. Gujarat did use the impact player substitution to their advantage and this is the growing trend that will be followed by every team.

Players to watch out for

R. Khan (Gujarat)

The Afghanistan spinner has truly found his home in the Gujarat team. There are no signs of slowing down on his individual level after a title-winning season. In the opener vs Chennai, he plucked 2 wickets and has the best economy rate of 6.50 in the four-over spell he bowled. Not only that, he went on to seal the win in the dying stages of the run chase hitting a maximum and a boundary partnering R. Rewatia. He has been a consistent player in the various franchise T20 leagues he has played in and the Indian Playerzpot League 2023 won’t be an exception.

S. Gill (Gujarat)

As expected Gill did make sure that all the hype and noise surrounding him was for nothing as he is the real deal. Coming into the season he had already been arguably the best white-ball batter and he continued the same with Gujarat in the tournament opener vs Chennai. The run chase was with a few hiccups but Gill was focused on his task and his knock of 63 runs was pivotal for his team to register their first win in the cash-rich tournament. The 23-year-old opening batter sure has a lot in his locker that he would like to unleash in the coming games.

D. Warner (Delhi)

In a deflated and poor showing by the Delhi team in their loss vs Lucknow perhaps the only bright spark for them was D. Warner’s knock. The Australian opener could only manage 56 runs which did include 7 boundaries but it was in vain as his team was chasing 190+ target. He was the lone warrior for his side and played a captain’s knock, one thing is assured Warner will pull more than his weight but the question remains will his team rally behind him?

K. Yadav (Delhi)

The spinner is well known for pulling the strings for his side when they need him the most. However, in the game vs Lucknow that was not to be found. Yadav despite that early bummer will look to bounce back in form and considering his recent performances in the Indian Playerzpot League. He has been a leading bowler in the Delhi camp which ultimately does put a bit of pressure on his shoulders to deliver.

W. Saha (Gujarat)

W. Saha is the sort of player that molds in the role that his team asks of him and that is exactly what he has done at Gujarat. Now in the prominent opening batter role, he does look like he was meant to be there alongside S. Gill. In the run case vs Chennai, he was the one who took the initiative and provided the strong start his team was looking for. 25 of 16 balls is certainly a job well done while chasing huge targets. The only thing you can ask more of him to stay on the crease long enough so he can further drive up the pressure on the bowling side.
