Inter Milan are closing in on the signing of Real Madrid defender Achraf Hakimi, according to reports coming out of Italy.

Hakimi’s contract at the Bernabeu expires in June 2022; Moroccan international has made 32 league appearances on loan at Borussia Dortmund this season. The Morocco international has spent the last two seasons out on loan at Borussia Dortmund and has quickly attracted the eye of European clubs. According to reports, Inter Milan are ready to offer Hakimi regular first-team football as they step closer to landing the Madrid-born player. It is being claimed that the deal for the Dortmund star would be £35.8m with add-ons. Hakimi would offer Inter boss Antonio Conte plenty of versatility due to his ability to play at either left-back or right-back or out on the wing. The Guardian reports that the Inter target’s Madrid future is in doubt as his first-team football would be limited, with Zinedine Zidane favouring Dani Carvajal as his first choice.

Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc confirmed that the German club wants to keep hold of the player for the following season. “The contractual situation is clear, he will return to Real Madrid for the time being,” he said. “We will still try to get him to play with us next season, but it is too early to discuss that now.” Hakimi’s agent, Alejandro Camano, has revealed that the player will return to his parent club when the current campaign ends. “He will link back up with Real Madrid when the season finishes,” he told Onda Madrid in May. “We’ll see what happens after that. He wants to play games, like this season, where he has started every match. There’s no rush. His only aspiration is to play games to help his development.”
