India’s rising star, Manika Batra became the first ever Indian Table Tennis player to be adorned with the ‘Breakthrough Table Tennis Star’ at the prestigious International Table Tennis Federation Star Awards on December 12th.

Manika starred in India’s gold medal win in the women’s team category at the Commonwealth Games and she also clinched the yellow metal in the women’s singles category.

The 23-year-old also paired with Sharath Kamal to bag a bronze in mixed doubles at the Asian Games.

“I am really honored and happy to have received the award. I feel 2018 has been the best year of my career so far and I am happy for what I have received”, Manika told in the ceremony.

“I would like to thank the government, the Table Tennis Federation of India(TTFI) and most importantly my family, who was there for me and motivated me along the journey”, she added.

Manika also reached her career-best ranking of 52 and became the highest ranked female player in India in the year 2018.
