The veteran wicketkeeper-batsman and former Indian skipper MS Dhoni has begun his two months training with the Indian Army’s Parachute Regiment on Wednesday as he joined a battalion with its headquarters in Bengaluru. His act of joining the Army to inspire the youths of the country was well-appreciated by everyone and the plan was in the pipeline for some time.

Speaking to IANS, the sources said,” Just like Dhoni has been one of the greatest servants of Indian cricket, his love for the armed forces is also well-known. This idea that he would go and spend time with his regiment was in pipeline for a while but it took a backseat because of his cricket commitments.

“This will also, help to increase the awareness among the youth about the armed forces and that is what Dhoni wants.”

The former captain of the Indian cricket team who is well-known for his cool temperament and efficient captaincy holds the honorary rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Territorial Army unit of the Parachute Regiment (106 Para TA battalion) which was awarded to him in 2011.

In 2015, he became a qualified paratrooper after having completed five parachute training jumps from the Indian Army aircraft in the Agra training camp.
