Roger Federer reached the third round for the 15 th  time of Roland Garros setting up a clash against Casper Ruud- son of his 1999 rival when the Swiss star made his debut. Federer admitted before the match that he has never watched his opponent Otte play before and it definitely took some time for him to get to grips with the German. But at 5-4, Otte’s game unraveled as the Swiss star broke him to seize the first set. The second set went with serve until 4-3 when a double fault by Otte gave Federer two break points and with a volley winner, he won the set 6-3. Federer sails through the final set after a lovely drop volley and finished the match gorgeously. Federer’s next clash will be against Norway’s’ Ruud- a self-proclaimed fan of Rafael Nadal- who defeated 29 th  seed Matteo Berrettini 6-4, 7-5, 6-3. Interestingly Ruud’s father Christian who had reached the third round of Roland Garros in 1999 had to face the 17-year-old Roger Federer who made his main draw debut. Caper Ruud was just five months old when Federer played in Paris back in 1999.
