In a recent conversation with Harsha Bhogle in Cricbuzz, West Indies & Chennai Super Kings all-rounder Dwayne Bravo was asked to name his top 5 players in T20 cricket. And the Caribbean superstar did not disappoint with his glorious lineup.
Bravo had to pick players from a lineup provided by Bhogle for each slot. At the start, Bravo was asked to choose the best player between Matthew Hayden, David Warner, Virender Sehwag, Brendon McCullum, Chris Gayle and Dwayne Smith. Unsurprisingly, Bravo picked his long time teammate, Gayle. In the second round, he was asked to pick the best T20 opener. Bravo went with Shane Watson over the likes of Gautam Gambhir, KL Rahul, Jonny Bairstow, Jos Buttler and Chris Lynn. Indian skipper Kohli made it to Bravo’s list from a number of batsmen that Bhogle came up with. In the next round, he had to pick an aggressive batsman. Bravo went with AB de Villiers over the likes of Rohit Sharma, Rishabh Pant, Yuvraj Singh, Ben Stokes and Michael Hussey. Dhoni, his CSK captain, was an automatic selection when Bravo was asked to choose from a number of finishers. Hardik Pandya, Glenn Maxwell, Andre Russell and Kieron Pollard were other options provided by Bhogle.
Kohli, the highest run-scorer in the shortest format at the highest level (2794 runs), was another automatic selection in Bravo’s list. He is also the highest run-scorer in IPL (5412 runs). Dhoni, the former India captain, has one ICC T20 Trophy and has also won three IPL trophies. Gayle, the first batsman to score 10000 runs the shortest format, is an automatic selection in anyone’s squad while De Villiers is one of the most versatile batsmen who can play different roles across all formats. Talking of Watson, he remains a big-match player. What will be your Top 5 lineup of T20 cricket? Tell us in the comments section.
